Long time no post... just thought I'd swing by since I'm in nostalgia mode. Just saw Emery rock it at El Corazon with a bunch sweaty kids. It reminded me of summer night spent there when it was called the Graceland. I remember a time where we had to endure the stuffy heat because we weren't 21 yet. That sucked.

Monsters Scare You opened for Emery and they were a lot of fun. I love going to shows where the openers are good... and the headliners are a band you know and love; especially a band that you can sing/scream along with. I felt like a kid again jumping around and singing my heart out. Too bad it was only for 3 songs since I haven't really listened to the new Emery. However, I might have to visit their new stuff. Sounds like they're getting back to their older stuff. I love it.

What else has been going on with me? Well other than coming back from Europe, I finally made it a show in Spokane. That was different. A no re-entry venue. That sucked. However the show itself was awesome. It was for Volbeat. If you haven't checked them out. You should do it now. ... No really, now...

What are you still doing here? I think I might go listen to a song of theirs now. :)

Oh and next week is The Classic Crime and then WARPED TOUR. Yay, actually going to check out quite a few bands this year. Very excited for that. Woo.

I cannot believe Christmas is tomorrow. Time has gone by so fast this year. It seems like just a few months ago I was transferring into the eCommerce department at work. Reflecting back on the year it was pretty fantastic.

I went to Vegas for the first time being able to gamble. Got to see my bud, Sandy, and finally hang out with her kids. She even came up to Seattle for a visit. Oh yea, for our high school reunion. What a bust. I knew it would be. Oh well. Another great thing that happened this year was concerts. Finally went to more than just one this year. Got to see Thursday a few times. Unfortunately it'll be the last time we see them. :( Wish I could fly to the east coast and catch one of their final shows. Just wish they were doing some next year that I could try to catch. Also saw Blue October for the first time. Must say that they know how to put on a show. Also got to see Crossfade again... those guys are amazing. I would love to see them live again. Another concert that will stick out for me is Christian Kane. Although we missed part of his set, I had a good time at my first country show. Haha, yes you heard that right. COUNTRY. It was fun. I would see him again. Wow, speaking of Crossfade, spotify decided to play one of their songs haha.

Anyway, I'm done with my Christmas shopping, well mostly. I think what I'll do for mom is just make a card saying she can pick out a new cell phone. The iPhone 4 is pretty cheap (compared to the 4s) and is available at Sprint now. I don't know if she'll want it/need it. We'll see.

I told my brother I wanted the PS3 with Uncharted games because it's such a great deal right now. He said he'd have to get it later if that's what I really wanted. :\ I think I'll just pick it up for myself.. it's too a good deal to pass up. Plus I have over $100 in certificates from rewardzone. I should just redeem it on that. Woo.

Okay, this post is getting pretty long for my readers.. wait do I still have readers? Who still uses LJ anyway? Haha, I think I'll always have this just to add some entries every six months :)

So there's a len I want to buy for my camera. It's a pricey little bastard - but aren't all slr lenses? I am in need of a better/faster lens. The one I have just isn't cutting it. I was naive when I bought my camera kit. It had been so long since I had actually understood f-stops and shutter speeds - okay I remember shutter speeds but not f-stops. I thought "eh this is a great price and I get a telephoto lens too, sweet." Yeah, too bad the lenses both aren't that super. It's great for outdoors/bright lights but not what I wanted the camera to be intended for. How is it that my Canon point and shoot digital camera can get so much better photos than my SLR? Well the manual function on my G3 is bad ass with an f-stop of f2.0! Insane. I am almost tempted to buy a new battery for it just so that I can use it at shows that I can't bring my SLR into. Too bad the cheapest I've seen that battery is $60!! If I decide to buy this new lens, a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, I will ask them about the G3 battery. Actually I'm going to ask about a replacement battery for the Yashica too.

My dad has this old school SLR by Yashica. The light meter battery is dead and OLD (mercury) so I need to find a replacement for it. I want to start taking some film shots again, too. The lens is pretty good too so I might test it out at a concert one of these days. I am having fun getting back into the whole photography thing. I am still getting my feet wet again.... remembering how much I hate red lights. *sigh* Most of the shows I have been going to have been small clubs so the lighting hasn't been that great. I'm going to the showbox tonight which is a larger venue (not by much) but usually has better lighting. Here's hoping it's still the same.

Anyway back to the lens. I don't know if I want to drop the money on that lens or not. It's on ebay for a bit cheaper but I hate having to bid on things then wait and see if it's actually the product that I bought and if it really does work like it's supposed to. The place I want to buy the lens from has a pretty lenient return policy. I am very excited about the prospect of the lens not working to my standards and I can return it without having to pay a restocking fee. Unless I'm a dumbass and drop it or something - which could happen since I'm a klutz.

Okay this post is becoming much longer than anticipated. I shall shut up now.

Hello Livejournal. it has been way too long since I've really posted here.

Last night, Claire and I went to a concert. Wow, I want to say it's been far too long but it hasn't. I saw Ryan Star back in September. Twice! But it just isn't the same. Seeing dredg and codeseven in a crowded, sweaty, hot room with 499 other kids is just different... probably because it brings back so many memories.

It's funny to see people get pushed and shoved and get annoyed by it. The thing that annoys me is when I have a clear line of the stage and some douche decides it'd be cool to stand in front of the short girl so all I see is your head or back. Thanks, douche. Oh well, the life of being short. And we were in the back standing on a step!! lol.

Anyway, dredg was awesome. <3 them. I loved that they played a lot of old songs, loved being able to sing along.

codeseven was fun, only remembered parts of a few songs but they were great.

Don't remember the openers name but I was digging it.

Circa Survive... oh boys... your lights are horrible!! thank you for wanting to blind me or give me a headache. I saw fog and lights and immediately thought of VAUX... too bad your lights/fog can never live up to the live show that is VAUX. Music was great and crowd LOVED them, so that was pretty cool. Just didn't like the lights. Oh well. C'est la vie.

Had the weirdest dream last night. I just wanted it to committed to text because I will forget about it if I don't do it now. Haha.

I was working with somebody who I guess was an authority figure of this community. There was a table set up for it. I don't know why but it was where the people would go to speak with this person.  This guy was new in the position and no one had held that position in years. There were a ton of people that showed up. Anyway, there's this sheet of paper where people would list how to make their community better. For some reason there was a music section. Some guy put in a few good bands and then I started talking to him about other bands he might enjoy. Then the next person in line started writing on the paper. At this point I look down at my agenda. There would be people coming in to speak with the people. I notice Neil Gaiman is on the list. I look up to the person helping me with the table and said something about how awesome Gaiman was and that was when I noticed the person I was speaking to WAS Neil Gaiman. Haha.

We chat for awhile then I notice Sarah Palin is also on the list. WTF? Yeah, she was there. I had a conversation with her, but I don't recall what it was about. It was all very odd.

Soon my dream switched and I'm in this "real life" game. It was a shooter type game. I wound up getting lost from my squad. I was running around the school (that's the location) and was trying to find them again. At one point, I spotted one of my enemies and I was going to try and take him out. However he was on a higher platform than me so I couldn't reach him. So I tried hiding from him. Then as I'm running, I was weaving and bobbing because he was a sniper and I didn't want to die. Haha. It was weird. Then I found some people but we were trying to run away and get out of the game so there were people that were helping us achieve that goal. I don't know what else was going on because that's where my dream started getting hazy.

I mostly wanted to write this down because of the Neil Gaiman, Sarah Palin thing. Just odd. Odd I say.

  4. Jane Austen - Sense and Sensibility (started reading last year)
  5. Lois Lowry - The Giver (I reread this book every year)
  6. Sebastien Japrisot - A Very Long Engagement (I just found out it was a book before a movie. I'm curious)
  7. Neil Gaiman - American Gods
  8. Belle du Jour - Secret Diary of a Call Girl (started last year, must finish so I can give it back to Natalie) - read half of it before giving back

I did pretty good as far as the books I wanted to read. I even read Persuasion by Jane Austen, too. I read a lot of books that weren't on my list.. haha that's what happens when the library gets books that look interesting. :) Now that I think about it though, I had a few more books on there prior to posting this - however, I had read them before I put them on LJ so it's not too bad.

books to read in 2010 and moreCollapse )

:( I just watched the second to last episode with David Tennant as the Doctor. It's going to be sad when he hangs up his coat and passes the key to the TARDIS to a new kid. Yes, I'm that much of a nerd and I love Doctor Who. I hope this new guy is great because I don't want to stop watching this show. I'm sad they went the younger route. It seems since they started up the new series they've made each reincarnation of the Doctor younger. I didn't mind Tennant because he is, well, awesome. He had the quirkiness that Eccleston brought to the character plus pizazz or something haha. I think I might rewatch season 4 again because I just love the Donna and Doctor dynamic. Hehe.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to those that celebrate! :) I had a pretty good Christmas. Uneventful but the food was GREAT. We had steamed crab, steamed shrimp, ham, and some Korean pancakes. Nom nom. Plus I made some "cheesecake cookies." Oi, they're awesome. Thank you, Paula Deen. Haha.

I got the new Mario Wii game, I'll have to check it out tomorrow. Woo. Charlie bought me Arkham Asylum so I have a new Xbox game to play too. I've been playing GTA4 lately - trying to beat that sucker. I'm finally getting into it. I still prefer the older GTA games to this. It's not as fun as the previous outings. Maybe Saints Row has me under its spell. :) I also got True Blood season 1. Wee. I just wish Alex Skarsgaard was in it more. Ah well, that's what season 2 is for.

I bought Mom some new pots and pans. She's been wanting new cookware. Our old ones are just bad. So now we get to use the good stuff. Woo.

Wow, it's only 9? It feels like it's already midnight or something. Ah well, maybe I'll just go to sleep early or something. Yea, I'm lame like that.

Ooooh. I've been heavily thinking about getting a new digital camera. A compact one. I originally wanted a Canon. The SD990IS. It is very pricey, but has all the features I want in a digital camera - especially a point and shoot. Too bad not many stores carry it (only online). I kept holding off on buying it. Then I decided not to get it. Now I found this one. Sony WX1. It looks so cute. Tiny and AWESOME! There's so many nifty features and apparently it's GREAT in low light! Woo. I just have to see if Best Buy carries it in store. It says "online only" but you never know, right? It's a little pricey but I think it's worth it. I can't wait to buy it. Haha, Merry Christmas to me. :) (Okay, lies... my brother gave me some money on my birthday for a new camera.)

Mmm... Finally catching up on Heroes. It's entertaining because the guy that plays Samuel played T-Bag on Prison Break (which I'm watching through netflix). Plus Ray Park is a beautiful specimen of man. Haha. Seriously, he looks fantastic with scruff. I never really found him all that attractive but in Heroes he is pretty awesome. I guess I finally got over his Darth Maul and Toad look. :D

Got to kick it with Claire today. Went to Gameworks to hang out with Joe... too bad he got there after we were already there for an hour or so. Haha. We had fun though. It was nice seeing him - been way too long!

Claire's got me wanting to go to shows again even more... with all that talking of them. So I decided to go on pollstar since it's been so long since I've been there. Finding all these awesome shows I want to go to but never will haha. However, this one is mostly so I remember to tell Desi.. Tumbledown at El Corazon on January 9th! Woo. <3 Mike Herrera's rockabilly band!

I think I might cry.... I knew Bone Thugs were coming out... too bad I didn't know it was on December 6th. AND TOO BAD I didn't know it was at El FUCKING Corazon! AND ALL FIVE FUCKING MEMBERS WOULD BE THERE! Damn it! I would've loved to see that performance. Plus it's no smoking in all public places now so there would be no (okay, less) pot smoking occurring at the show.

Oooh Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band on Jan 15th! at El Corazon.

Last time I tried do that meme it wouldn't let me. lol. It shows me that I really need to update my interests. :) Still too cute.

Saw Boondock Saints 2 last night. Hells yea! It was pretty good. I liked that it gave you the back story to Il Duce. The boys did a great job. However, Sean Patrick Flanery wasn't looking super hot in this one. I've been reading that he either had an allergic reaction to something or something else had happened because at the movie premier his face wasn't as swollen as it was during the movie. I don't know. Oh well, still hot bod. Hehe. Other than that though, great humor. A lot of great quotes to come from it. One of mine that I remembered long after the movie was... "God (or Jesus) is calling you home... (click) oh, busy signal!" Haha. You have to see it to understand that a little more. :) Ahh, why can't it still play in FW? I would go see it again as a matinee. Ah well. I'll survive. Maybe. DVD needs to come out soon!
